Nordvegen Vind

Norway shows the way

We are combining leading international offshore wind experience with regional presence and energy market expertise.

Nordvegen Vind is a partnership between Corio and Å Energi, intending to drive the floating offshore wind sector forward and provide a launch pad for Norway’s supply chain to engage with the global floating offshore wind opportunities.

Utsira Nord will help set the standard for floating offshore wind in Norway and the development of the Norwegian offshore wind industry. Together, we will create a world-class offshore wind industry.

Nordvegen Vind is based on the historical site located close to Utsira, Nordvegen, that is considered to be the birthplace of Norway. Nordvegen Vind has an ambition to put Norway on the map yet again by developing a leading floating wind project at Utsira Nord.

Partners

Corio is the world leader in floating offshore wind with one of the world’s largest portfolios for offshore wind development. Å Energi is the largest renewables group in Norway with activities throughout the value chain and has ambitions to become the Nordic’s most forward-looking renewables group. Together we are Norvegen Vind.

Å Energi and Corio joined forces in early 2022 to prepare a floating offshore wind project for Utsira Nord, in the Norwegian North Sea.

Through this, we want to be able to contribute to reaching the Norwegian authorities’ 0-degree target, green transition, innovation, new jobs, local ripple effects and forward-looking energy solutions.

Together the partnership has:

  • 20+GW offshore wind development pipeline
  • 5+ GW floating offshore wind development pipeline
  • 9+ Active markets with project development
  • 11,3 TWh flexible hydro capacity
  • 30.000 km owned and operated power grid
  • 35+ TWh Renewable power managed annually in the Nordics

Å Energi

Å Energi is Norway’s largest power group with operations in the entire value chain from production to consumer. The company is a green industrial developer with investments in batterierbattery, hydrogen, solar, offshore wind, and digitalisation.

Our most important social mission is to increase the production of clean, affordable renawable renewable energy, to ensure that the electricity is distributed efficiently around our network, and to develop new and better energy-related services in Norway and the Nordic region – for our customers in rural and urban areas, industry and commerce, premises, and homes.

Hydropower is today the foundation of the business, alongside owning and operating an extensive power network, managing a power portfolio of 35 TWh and having in-depth knowledge of the power system, the market, and regulatory matters locally, nationally, and internationally.

Corio

Corio is a specialist offshore wind business dedicated to harnessing renewable energy worldwide.

With a unique blend of sector-leading expertise and deep access to long-term capital, we work closely with our partners in the creation and management of projects from origination, development, and construction, and into operations.

Corio’s global 20+ GW offshore wind development portfolio is one of the largest in the world, spanning established and emerging markets, as well as floating and traditional fixed-bottom technologies.

These next-generation offshore wind projects will help form the backbone of the net-zero global energy system while meeting the energy needs of communities and corporate off-takers sustainably, reliably, safely, and responsibly.

The project

Nordvegen Vind is based on the historical site located close to Utsira, Nordvegen, that is considered to be the birthplace of Norway

Nordvegen Vind has an ambition to put Norway on the map yet again by developing a leading floating wind project at Utsira Nord.

A new and important chapter in Norwegian energy history has begun. Nordvegen Vind will, through Utsira Nord, contribute to developing a world-class offshore wind industry.

Norway has vast potential for floating offshore wind development and strong offshore industrial expertise, which can be applied in the emerging floating wind industry. The Norwegian government has announced that it will allocate areas for offshore wind power to 30,000 MW by 2040.

In the North Sea, you will find some of the best wind resources in the world. The offshore wind field Utsira Nord is located here, one of two areas that the Norwegian authorities have opened for the development of offshore wind. The area, with its sea depths, proximity to large industrial plans and unique wind conditions, is very well suited for floating offshore wind. Utsira Nord will help set the standard for floating wind in Norway and the development of the Norwegian offshore wind industry.

In addition to increasing renewable power production for Norway, the investment in offshore wind will also be a unique opportunity that can contribute to:

  • Innovation and technology development
  • Create new jobs
  • Industrial development
  • New export opportunities
  • Increased activity in the supplier industry

Through Nordvegen Vind, Å Energi and Corio, with their expertise and experience, aim to contribute to this in close cooperation with the authorities, the supplier industry and the rest of the offshore wind industry.

Sustainability

As a responsible offshore wind player, we have an obligation tomust ensure that the upcoming offshore wind development takes place in the most appropriate way possible with regards to impact on nature and the environment. Therefore, we want to contribute to projects that strengthen the knowledge base so that the decisions made as far as possible consider the challenges we face.

A concrete example of this is a project where Å Energi and Corio strengthen bird research at Utsira island together with the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA).

The aim is to provide a better knowledge base for further impact assessment for the offshore wind initiative Utsira Nord and make the research publicly available.
